Fulton vs. Loudon- The Series
Tonight
marks the seventh meeting between the Falcons and the Redskins. Fulton
holds a 5-1 record against Loudon in the all-time series, and has won
both meetings played at Dukes Field. Fulton rallied in the 4th
Quarter of the teams’ last meeting at Loudon in 2002. The Big Red held
an 8-point advantage early in the 4th quarter until the
Falcons scored two late touchdowns to win the game 35-28. The series
dates back to 1966 when the two schools met in the Rockwood Jaycee Bowl.
Coach Lon Herzbrum’s Falcons of the mid 60s were known as the “Mighty
Mites” due to their lack of size. The undersized Falcons
held off Coach ‘Chig” Ratledge’s
Redskins by the score of 14-13 in that first meeting. Major gridiron
success was just around the corner for both schools, as Fulton went
10-0-1 in 1967, and Loudon won the state championship in 1969.
