Falcons open 54th Season
Tonight, Fulton
High School begins its 54th season of football. The Falcons
have won 303 games over the last 53 seasons. Fulton has amassed a record
of 24-25-4 in season openers. The Falcons have won on the last two
opening nights; defeating Carter 27-8 in 2002, and 37-20 last year.
Fulton’s last opening game loss came to Carter in 2001 7-6.

Last Time Out
The Falcons did not participate in Week 0
action this year. Fulton got a dress rehearsal two weeks ago in the KOC
Kick-off classic at Neyland Stadium. Fulton defeated Powell 6-0 in the
one quarter game. Demarcus Matthews’ interception of a Powell pass set
the Falcons up for the winning score. Tyrone Cobb’s 1-yard touchdown run
with 1 minute remaining clinched the jamboree victory.

Falcons to Remain in 3A
The TSSAA announced on Tuesday the new
football classifications for 2005-2008.
Fulton’s enrollment
of 956 students was enough to keep the Falcons a 3A school. Region 2-3A
will likely be different next year as Lenoir City will move up to 4A,
and Loudon drops to 2A. Carter will drop to 3A next year, and will
likely join region 2-3A. The classification picture is not complete, as
the TSSAA waits to hear from its member private schools on whether the
want to play in Division 1 or 2. Final regional alignments will be
announced in November.

Next Week
The Falcons
return to Bob Black Field next week to face the Austin-East Roadrunners
in the Region 2-3A opener for both teams. A large turnout is expected
for this annual rivalry game. The game will be broadcast live on CSS-TV
with Mark Packer and Tony Basillio. WNOX radio has announced that the
game will be their game of the week. WKCS radio for Fulton and WKGN
radio for A-E will broadcast the game. Any other press interested in
covering the game needs to contact the Fulton Athletics Department at
594-1254 or 594-1259. Press Box space will be limited due to the large
media turnout.
