About Fulton
Stadium/Bob Black Field
Long before
Fulton played its first home game at the school, what is now known as
Bob Black Field served as Fulton’s practice field. Home games from
1951-1964 were played at Evans-Collins Field. In 1964, the North
Knoxville Stadium Association was established with the goal of building
a football stadium at Fulton High School. The NKSA worked hard to raise
money for the project from local businesses and individual donors. In
October of 1964, local dignitaries gathered for the ground breaking of
Fulton Stadium/Falcon Field. The original stadium, consisting of the
middle section of the current stadium’s bleachers, along with temporary
stands, seated 3000 people and was ready for the first game of the 1965
season on August 27, 1965 against Unicoi Co. On that historic evening, a
full house watched the Falcons defeat the Blue Devils 13-0. The stadium
was expanded to its current configuration before the 1969 season. Fulton
lost to Sevier Co. 14-8 in the first game in the completed stadium.
Falcon Field was renamed “Bob Black Field,” in honor of the coach and
athletic director on September 12, 1986. In the dedication game, Fulton
defeated Alcoa 10-7 on Mike Potter’s overtime field goal. Fulton
concluded the 2002 season with a perfect 8-0 home record, including
three consecutive home victories in the TSSAA Play-offs. For the first
time ever on November 1, 2002, Fulton hosted a live regional cable
broadcast on CSS, as the Falcons defeated the Gibbs Eagles 47-7.

Field Decorations
Fulton takes
great pride in the appearance of Bob Black Field. Many fans have said
that Fulton’s field is the best-decorated field in the area. The
coaching staff spends many hours on Wednesdays painting the field for
Friday’s game. The drop wing falcon on the 50-yard line first appeared
during the 1992 season. This is the second season that the falcon has
been painted black. The FHS designs in both end zones debuted in 1993.
The current field design has been in use since the 1996 season. The drop
wing falcon and FHS logos are outlined by hand prior to the start of the
season by Fulton graduates Tim Parker and Jason Harbison. |

Fulton’s 19 game
home winning streak ended earlier this year at the hands of Austin-East.
The 19 game streak set a school record for most consecutive home wins.
The streak began with a win over Rutledge in week five of 2001 until
Fulton’s semi-final win over Macon Co. in 2003. Fulton has posted a 1-2
record at Bob Black Field this year. The Falcons opened their stadium
with a 19 game unbeaten streak (17-0-2) from 1965-1968. Fulton’s

Fulton vs Anderson
Co.- The Series
Fulton meets
Anderson Co. tonight for the seventh time. Anderson Co. won the first
five meetings and leads the all-time series 5-2. Fulton has won the last
two match-ups between the schools. The teams have split the two games
played at Fulton. The series dates back to 1993, when Buck Coatney’s
second Fulton team traveled to Clinton to face Larry Kerr’s first group
of Mavericks. Anderson Co. held off a late Fulton rally to defeat the
Falcons 22-15 in that first game. Two games in the series have gone into
overtime. In the 2001 second round of the playoffs, Anderson Co. stormed
from behind to send the game into overtime. The next year, Fulton kept
its undefeated season alive by winning the two-overtime thriller 26-23.

Last Year
Fulton spoiled the Mavericks homecoming last
year in Clinton with a hard-fought 14-10 victory. Anderson Co. came into
the game as the favorite to win region 2-3A, sporting a perfect 6-0
record and a #2 state ranking. Tony Martin’s 11 tackles led the Falcons
in the defensive struggle that saw the Mavericks win the field position
battle in the second half. Fulton scored first in the game on a 14- play
84-yard drive capped off by a Justin Long 26 yard touchdown pass to Jam
Fine. Anderson Co. took the lead in the game on a 2-yard TD run by Sean
Mounts following a Maverick safety. The Falcons retook the lead for good
in the second quarter on a 3-yard run by Long. Neither team scored in
the second half. The tough Fulton defense held the Mavs to 118 rushing
yards and 59 passing yards in the victory.

Last Week
Last weeks match-up between Fulton and Loudon featured a large
number of momentum shifts as the Falcons held off the winless
Redskins for a 22-13 region 2-3A victory at Dukes Field. Fulton got
on the board first on a 32-yard field goal by Ryan Ferguson.
Loudon shocked the Falcons with 13 consecutive points to take a 13
–3 lead into halftime. Fulton capitalized on a big punt return by
Elliott Bishop to gain the momentum in the second half. The Falcons
cut the lead to 13-9 with 3:09 remaining in the third quarter on a
3-yard touchdown run by Tyrone Cobb. DeMarcus Matthews’ 16-yard run
gave the Falcons the lead early in the fourth quarter. Loudon
mounted a final charge late in the game, driving to the Fulton
1-yard line with less than two minutes remaining. Fulton recovered a
Loudon fumble on third and goal to preserve the victory. Jam Fine
closed out the scoring on Fulton’s final possession on a season long
88-yard TD run.
